“I cannot do all the good that the world needs. But the world needs all the good that I can do” – Jana Stanfield
We have returned to work this year with our thoughts and conversations centred around those so cruelly affected by the bushfires. The impact the fires have had on the local communities has been both immediate and devastating while the recovery process will be long-lasting and arduous. As the situation unravels we ask a simple question, “What can we do to help”?
With the assistance of Bunyip Fire Brigade and Big Wet Springwater, APTC Australia has been privileged to lend a helping hand by the donation of two pallets of bottled water to assist both the Firies and communities who are now without this necessity. We have also made a monetary contribution to the Victorian Farmers Federation who are providing fodder relief for farmers and communities in fire-affected areas. The VFF are a respected organisation who work tirelessly to advocate for farmers and rural communities throughout the year, not just in times of crisis, and we are proud to be helping such a deserving group.
Our native wildlife has also been severely affected by the fires with some species under threat of endangerment and so the staff here at APTC Australia chose to adopt two koalas from the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital in New South Wales. ‘Anwen’ and ‘Paul’ both suffered burns when the fires burnt through their home and are currently in the care of the koala hospital. The costs of treating and rehabilitating koalas add up very quickly and our adoption ensures that Anwen and Paul continue to receive first-class care and the greatest possible chance of returning to the wild.
It is impossible to gauge the true extent of the damage left behind by the fires and our contribution may be small but every little bit counts. We ask that you please consider supporting those who have been affected by the fires if you haven’t done so already. They need our help not just now but in the future.
Big Wet Springwater and Bunyip Fire Brigade are working in conjunction with Mainfreight to deliver the donated water. Please see their Facebook pages for more details
